ENVI NICOLE MODEL INTERVIEW

Model Name: Envi Nicole

Location:  Originally from Hernando, Ms. but currently reside in Memphis, Tn

What made you get into modeling/fashion? My mother is a seamstress who owns her own company. When I was a young girl she use to design clothing and she would use me as a model in her fashion shows. Modeling comes natural to me and it has been my passion ever since.

How long have you been into it? I started when I was 14 years old and stopped. I started back modeling again 8 years ago and been modeling ever since.

What are some of your hobbies? I love writing poetry, swimming, traveling, shopping, cooking, and spending time with my family and friends.

How do you view the industry? I think the industry is missing something and that would be that it doesn’t highlight enough full figured models/women. Don’t get me wrong there is absolutely nothing wrong with skinny or slim women but you don’t get to see enough of the full figured women being recognized for their contribution to the fashion industry. Everytime I pick up a magazine I see nothing but skinny women and lets be honest that is not the average woman now days, you see more women with curves. I think they should showcase the women with curves. So that little girls can pick up a magazine and say that it’s ok for them to embrace their curves rather than starving themselves to try to become something that they are not.

You have anyone in mind you want to work with next model etc.? I would absolutely love to work with Cynthia Bailey because she seems to be really humble (unlike some successful models) and she is open to people to all sizes and races.

Who are some of your favorite designers? Honestly I don’t really have any favorite designers, if it looks good I’ll wear it. Doesn’t matter if it came from Paris or Walmart in America, I will rock it if it compliments my figure.

Where can we find you online?
www.facebook.com/envinicole
www.twitter.com/envinicole
www.instagram.com/envinicole

What is something you willing to share with your readers that they might not know about you? A lot of people don’t know this about me btu I have a hidden talent and that’s that I can play the drums. I started out playing in high school and when I graduated I use to play a little for my church.

Anything you want to add before we close out? I am a girl who chases her dreams and I will never give up on them. Hopefully you will know me as more than just the small town girl with big city dreams.

INTERVIEW WITH DJ SKETCHZ

DJ: DJ SKETCHZ
CITY: MEMPHIS

Where did the name come from? I chose Dj Sketchz because I wanted my name to have meaning I consider djing to be art forms just like drawing a picture or sketching a picture. So that how I came with sketchz

So how did it all begin? I've always been around music my mom has played piano forever but for me I use just make a lot of neo soul mixes I was a barber by day and downtown Chris brown that was on 101.1 at the time was one of our regular customers got to hear a couple of them and thought I had a real ear for music and thought I should go for it so he let me hangout at a few of his gigs and learn so here I am..

What genre of music do you play? I play it all I feel if you’re going to be in this game why limit yourself so from top 40 to house...

What gave you that initial push? Wow man where do I start I’ve always been very close with Howard Q & Boogaloo & my guy Hypo I went to T.S.U with those guys so they have always given me encouragement also My guy Dj Kojac, Freddy Hydro & Chilli T. In Atlanta, But what really pushed me was I got to go to a party years ago and really hear my Dj Kutta man that dude is a beast!!!! To hear him work the crowd & scratch & transition music I knew then I wanted to go for it & become a Dj.

Did the Djing, Production, Promoting come 1st? I actually started with Howard Q & Hypo promoting parties back at T.S.U

Who's throwing the best parties at the moment? I would have to say my guys David Mack Marvin Todd, Ken Mack, & Craig Cunningham. Cool out & Social Therapy rocks!!!!So shout outs to those guys....

Which other countries have you played/put parties on? Wow I’ve had a chance to Dj in Atlanta also Dallas but I would love to hit some cities & out of the country...

What was the first event you ever played at/put on? The first big event was when Crumpys had their comedy club a couple of friends I put on a show with live entertainment with Larry Springfield & comedians Lester Bibbs & Tony Tone...We had great turn out... But we also had a tragedy happen with the death of officer Don Williams... So it made me back away from the promotion side it’s always tough when you try to give people a great time and someone comes and ruins it......

What's the best event you've played at/put on? Years ago I threw a New Years Eve party with Dr. Derrick Payne and few friends and if you've ever been to one of Doctor Payne’s events man you know people come out and party!!! We also had the legendary Dj Just Bourne on the 1's & 2's

What was your first record you bought? Man first records had to be Eric b. & Rakim paid in full

Out of all the tunes you have, which one 'never fails?' If your trying to get the ladies up I’d have to say lathum freak it that tune never gets old....

What's your favorite tune of all time? Wow I come from that break-dance & Hip- hop dancing era lol I have so many from Black Sheep This or That to Hashim- Its Time...

When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out? I actually like to cookout and grill so just hanging with friends & Family works for me I like to keep it simple..

So how is the scene in your eyes at the moment? Everyone is kind of doing the same thing it needs something new if it’s not Hookah parties its Day parties...

How big is your vinyl collection? What do you think of CDJ's? My vinyl Collection pretty big I’ve actually got the original sugar hill gang album with jump on it as well as the Original Here my Dear Marvin Gaye... I'm actually using the pioneer cdjs to Dj with me love them... But I also plan to buy some turntables I’ve used them so that vinyl has a total different feel...

Funniest thing that ever happened at an event? Wow I have to say these past few years I Dj a lot of parties for strictly jazz ENT. and they have a new year’s party at the Westin downtown so there people of all shapes & colors attendance when I played a serious of old school rap I look up and its two couples that are probably about sixty out on the floor pop locking to sir-mixalot baby got back when I tell you that was some funny ish!!!

What are your feelings on the MC's? Man its overrated people think that if you don’t talk to work the crowd then the party isn’t live so now we've got to have mc's on the mic all the time, But truth be told there will never be another Hypo.... But in this day and time nobody rocks a mic like B. Hall & C. Diddy so big shouts out to those brothers... But to each is own...

What do you do outside of the dance music scene? I was a barber for 19yrs... Now I’m the Marketing /Admissions Director for Memphis Institute of Barbering....

What advice would you give to up and coming DJs/Promoters? Just stay humble definitely stay in your lane make sure that if your djing or promoting your doing it for the love of it & not just the money because it’s a lot easier to do this every day if you’re enjoying it...

When you play is this pre planned set? For me never because each club, party & crowd is different just because I like something doesn’t mean the crowd will so I’m always trying to read the crowd...

What music artist is motivating the music scene right now? I have to say that whole Rick Ross clique French Montana, Meek Mill my guy Juicy J. Is gettin it!!!

If you could change anything about the night scene what would it be? Man make these brothers stop standing around like they’re scared of these women man I’ve never seen nothing like it... all of these beautiful women in this city and they won’t even hold a conversation with them it’s crazy!!!!

Do you feel the DJing game is changing if so how? Yes it has some good some bad I just wish we would come together in our city as a Dj I’ve found that a lot of these others djs get in these cliques man and won’t even speak to other djs or hate on them and that’s crazy I want to see everybody do well, But when you have a lot of grown men that act like chicks!!!!! We've let other cities pass our city when hands down I think we have some of the hottest talent around but we keep ourselves for shinning with this foolishness.......But on a positive note you have brothers like Dj Rocksteddy ,Dj Stylez ,Dj Xculsive & Dj Kaliber that are doing the some positive & big things so I salute those brothers....

If you could pick any place you could spin at where would it be? Anywhere in Vegas.....

What is the difference in a radio personality and DJ? Radio personalities are more like a host or Mc's you do have a few that do it all. A Dj usually does is it all from mixing, Mc, to controlling his or her crowd...

Where can you be found doing your thing? I'm @ Perignons Restaurant and Lounge @ 2818 Coleman Rd. Every Saturday Nite for Sensual Saturdays Ladies Free Till 10 2 for 1 food & Drink specials....So come holla at ya boy...

How can we find you on online? Facebook Dj Sketchz, Instagram Dj Sketchz
twitter @dj_sketchz

Anything you want to add before we close out? I'd like to thank you for interviewing me shoutout to my probeat Dj fam...

Be Blessed fam....

Model Interview with Lisja Swauncy

Model Name: Lisje Swauncy
Location: Memphis, TN

What made you get into modeling?
I'm a girl with a full group of guy friends. They're all musicians and have cultivated their craft into a music production company (#GroovCliq). I play saxophone but music really is not what I want to do. I honestly just started looking for my place within the group to not only better their careers and help their dreams but find my own voice in media as well. Modeling is that voice for me. I've always loved captivating images; there is something really beautiful about a girl that can say a thousand words with just one look and pose. I'm working towards being that girl and creating that type of inspiration. I finally found my place where I can do me and link up with them at the same time.

How long have you been into it? Four Years

What are some of your hobbies? Music, reading, tweeting and cross country running.

How do you view the industry? Simplest put: It's a hard knock life. The industry is definitely not for the weak-hearted. You have everyone scrutinizing every flaw in your body and face; while simultaneously having to weed through photographers that love their craft as much as you do verses the ones who just want to snap a sexy picture of a sexy girl. In the days of Instagram where anyone with a big booty and a weave is a "model" and anyone with an I-phone is a "photographer"; the fakeness is real. At the same time; when you link up with people who are actually serious; magic happens. The creative energy from the hard-workers is so real; it's beyond beautiful. I wish there was more spotlight for us and less attention on the posers. Its a struggle and an uphill climb; but I love it enough to push through.

You have anyone in mind you want to work with next model etc.?
I really love Goddess Chee. I'd love for me, her and a few other girls to hit a really hot "Memphis Models" shoot. Something classy and sexy and upscale; vogue type stuff. I also really want to work with Adarryl Jackson. He's the only photographer on my "Must shoot with in Memphis" list that I have yet to work with. He does some GREAT natural scenery work. He's that photographer I want to go out into an open field with and just go ham with nature. That'd be dope.

Who are some of your favorite designers? Elizabeth Mclean of Square Rooted Noodle is a local designer from Nashville who I ADORE! Her clothes are edgy and simple at the same time. She does crazy things like turns pants into skirts. She's seriously the only person I know that can make that work. I love designers who design things that are different; yet wearable in everyday life. Her swimwear line is seriously to die for and I live for her new dress designs. (I secretly stalk her FB page for new work haha). She even designs jewelry out of recycled material. I once saw a necklace she did made totally out of paperclips. It was so hot you didn't even notice they were paperclips. That takes talent. I love that.

Where can we find you online?
I mainly tweet so @_ItzDutchess. I try to follow everyone back and reply to mentions and stuff. Don't DM me for my number though. Not cool. Most of my pictures are posted on my FB fanpage: Facebook.com/LisjeSwauncy. I do a bit of tumbling as well: LisKis.Tumblr.Com

What is something you willing to share with your readers that they might not know about you? I'm rather religious. It probably doesn't seem that way from the lingerie pictures but I take my relationship with God serious and am heavy into ministry Specifically ministering to young people. I also do a lot of work with Memphis Urban Debate League. Debate has been a really big part of my life and I love bringing the art of it to young people. It is really awesome to watch the kids grow as speakers and thinkers. There is so much scholarship money and life skill in the art of debate. Memphis Youth need that opportunity.

Anything you want to add before we close out?
It really is an honor to work with you; I have been following your photography career for a good while and you really are one of the best in the city. Thanks for having me!

INTERVIEW WITH MEMPHIS DJ NUBREED

DJ/RADIO PERSONALITY NAME: DJ NuBreed
CITY: Memphis

What genre of music do you play? Hip Hop, RnB, Rap, House, Dance, Bounce

So how did it all begin? It all began on the campus of University of Memphis. I started out playing music at house parties switching between my CD's and iTunes, lol. Obviously that wasn't going to work too long. I quickly moved on to a simple DJ program on the computer and began mixing at these college house parties. When I saw the energy I got from the crowd I thought to myself "this is all me!" Having the satisfaction of knowing that everyone had a good time because of the music I played opened my eyes. From then on I studied, watched, learned and listened to the DJ's that were already in the game like: Dj Kutta, Dj Dre, Dj Spydermann, Dj Houston, etc.

Where did the name come from? The name actually comes from my Fraternity; The Delta Nu chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. It was originally DNuBreed symbolizing a new breed of members that came into the chapter around 04/05. I simply split the D from the Nu and made it Dj. Simple, but effective.

What gave you that initial push? When people didn't take me seriously. They made me work harder and grind smarter to earn my respect in this business. I had four people in my ear the entire time i was trying to make a name for myself: Dj Rocksteddy, Dj Q, my guys Jerrick and KJay (who are also both Dj's). They gave me the necessary words and "encouragement" to stop tip toeing and get the ball rolling.

Did the Djing, Production, Promoting come 1st? I've produced music since I was a teenager, that's always been a passion of mine. However, I put it on the back burner when life got "real" after college. I was originally promoting with a group called AEI. A lot of people came and went through AEI, but I'm not gone speak on that, lol. Then the Djing came and changed my life completely.

Who's throwing the best parties at the moment? That's a hard question. Everybody brings something unique and different to their demographic of people. If I had to say somebody it would have to be BBEMG with the Sun Set Day Party.

Which other countries have you played/put parties on? I haven't been out of the county, yet. I'm striving to get international though so stay tuned lol.

What was the first event you ever played at/put on? A Sigma house party in college. Mainstream though would be a birthday party at Elements.

What's the best event you've played at/put on? The Can I Live Weekend Ultimate Day Party of 2012...that party was live all night. #Clutch

What was your first record you bought? I snuck out when I was about 7 or 8 and picked up the Doggystyle tape..."It aint no fun" is still one of my favorite tracks to date.

Out of all the tunes you have, which one 'never fails?' Skool Boy - Be Her Man ....everybody loves a dance record

What's your favorite tune of all time? Man that's a hard question. I would have to say Michael Jackson "Off The Wall".

When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out? I like to eat so, a nice restaurant with some friends is always a plus for me. Honestly, I have a party spirit so if I'm not working on the weekends I try to hang out downtown at 152 with my guy Dj DNyce.

So how is the scene in your eyes at the moment? Monogamous... everybody is doing it.

How big is your vinyl collection? What do you think of CDJ's? I grew up in the Cassette tape, CD era so my Vinyl collection is pretty much non-existent. I personally think CDJ's a great, I personally use 1200 Technincs. It's all a matter of preference. I know one thing...a cdj weights lighter than a turntable smh.

Funniest thing that ever happened at an event? The funniest thing is watching some of these people dance. Certain songs bring out the best and worst in people, lol.

What are your feelings on the MC's? If you break my mixer you buy it, lol...but seriously. I like the MC's they keep the crowd motivated when needed.

What do you do outside of the dance music scene? I eat and sleep. I occasionally wake up and go to work to counsel adults that have had a rough life, but mostly eat and sleep, lol.

What advice would you give to up and coming DJs/Promoters? Know how to play the game before you step foot in the gym. Know what you want to do, where you want to go, and go for it. Nothing comes over night. "If there is no struggle there is no progress" - Frederick Douglass

When you play is this pre planned set? No...I try not to get into a routine. I hate predictability. I always want to make you think I'm going a certain way and hit you with something to remember me by.

Where can you be found doing your thing? Catch me at Silver Spoon every Friday Night and other various locations throughout the week.

What music artist is motivating the music scene right now? 2 Chainz and Future...their "style" has motivated a lot of music being played at the moment.

If you could change anything about the night scene what would it be? The atmosphere. It seems like night life is getting monogamous. It needs to take a shift in a different direction and fast.

Do you feel the DJing game is changing if so how? Yes, I feel that it is not appreciated as it once was. There is more quantity than quality at the moment. The market has been cheapened and the DJ is losing its value to most promoters and club owners.

If you could pick any place you could spin at where would it be? The Ultra Music Festival...to be amongst that atmosphere would be epic. Also, a premier venue in Cali or Vegas would be clutch. I hear they party on a different level out there.

Anything you want to add before we close out? I just want to say thank you for the opportunity to do this. Thanks to all the people who believed that I could make it this far, but the journey isn't over yet. I still have a long way to go so stay tuned and keep rockin with me. #WePartyin

Model Interview with Model Mike..

Model Name: Model Mike
Location: Worldwide

What made you get into modeling?
I've always loved fashion and wanted to be a part of it, family and friends were always telling me they thought I would do well and needed to try it out so I did.

How long have you been into it?
I've been modelling 10 years now.

What are some of your hobbies?
I love to play soccer & basketball as I am very big on cardio. I love listening to music as it takes you to a whole different level and spending time with family and friends is always good with me.

How do you view the industry?
The industry is very good to those who want to do well, you have to make yourself want to be on top and not just expect it to be given to you. Some cities are more catered to the industry but that's because they have people there hungry to get in and ain't afraid to step out of the box to do what it takes. There are so many different directions you can go in the industry so you can never say that you can't get in the door.

You have anyone in mind you want to work with next?
I've pretty much worked with everyone I wanted to work with but my next shoot I'm definitely gonna have to try and do a really grown and sexy with Katina Lewis.

Who are some of your favorite designers?
I like a lot of Sean John as the I love how they have Street Wear as well as suits to switch it up but my all time favorite is Marc Ecko as he never limits himself to just one style or category of clothing and has So much variety to his work.

Where can we find you online?
PatrickCPhotography.com, Facebook/model.mike

What is something you willing to share with your readers that they might not know about you?
Just that I'm really a nice down to earth person so when you see me out it's okay to speak as I am not stuck up in any kind of way like I have been stereotyped in the past.

Anything you want to add before we close out?
It has been an honor and a great journey working with in my eyes the best photographer ever Patrick Covington and if you haven't already worked with him you are really missing out on a chance in boosting your career and getting the absolute best work done.

READY TO MODEL? INFORMATION AND TIPS

Today we will touch on various modeling information to help your shoots and modeling career move a little smoother.. Feel free to comment or ask questions and I will respond back.

Time for print

Time for print (also known as trade for print or test for print, TFP and sometimes also print for time or PFT) is a term used in many online photography communities describing an arrangement between a model and a photographer, whereby the photographer agrees to provide the model with an agreed number of pictures of the best photographs from the session and a limited license to use those pictures in return for the model's time. A variant of this arrangement is Time for CD or Trade for CD (TFCD). With TFCD, the selection of images is provided on a CD in lieu of prints. Similarly, with the ease and convenience of digital distribution of high resolution images, the generic term TF* has evolved, where it does not necessarily refer to a tangible CD or Printed image since the same accepted rules apply.

There are benefits to both parties of such an arrangement: the model can build a portfolio of prints to show to prospective clients at little or no cost, while the photographer gets a model for a particular project with little if any outlay of cash.

Conditions

Every photo shoot arranged on the various online modeling communities is negotiated separately, with the consequence that the terms agreed will vary widely from one to another. The number of pictures which the photographer will deliver to the model can range from a single photograph for the shoot up to six A4 prints for each hour that the shoot lasts. Speed of delivery can vary widely as well, from a CD burned at the end of the shoot before the model leaves up to several months. Unless such a delay has been specifically discussed and agreed prior to the shoot, finished pictures should be delivered within two weeks.

Modeling levels (i.e. whether the modeling is to be done clothed or will involve a degree of nudity) also need to be fully agreed before the shoot starts. Once the shoot has started, the photographer should not "push" the model's levels.

Usage

Depending on applicable local laws, the model or the photographer might agree to limit their usage of pictures from a shoot, either such that the model will only use specifically agreed pictures on online portfolios (such as to avoid sub-standard pictures being used and damaging the photographer's reputation) or perhaps that the photographer will only use certain images in printed publications and not on the internet. Legal requirements for a model release vary from place to place and from situation to situation, as does the situation regarding copyright. For example, under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, a photographer in the United Kingdom can, subject to certain exclusions and unless specifically agreed to the contrary,[6] use any photograph in any way he or she chooses, including selling them for profit. This does not necessarily apply in other countries. These issues should be discussed and agreed prior to the shoot, in writing if necessary.

Variations

Negotiated compensation for a model's time can range from a straight cash figure, possibly including an amount for travel expenses or, depending on legal requirements, an extra amount for signing a model release, to a simple number of pictures in a chosen format. It can include part-pay, part-TFP arrangements or "Time For Clothes" agreements where the model is given some or all of the clothing which was procured for the shoot.

Testing

While this term is sometimes used to mean TFP, it is more commonly used by agencies in the context of sending a new model to a photographer for a short session for portfolio pictures. While the model will be responsible for paying for these pictures, the cost will normally be paid for in advance by the agency with the money then deducted from the model's earnings. Test shoots are also used by models to build experience. Traditional agencies do not recognize the term time for print.

This bag contains everything needed when you are working, and helps you be prepared for everything.

A No call No show in the modeling field is just like a job… Please if you know you not going to make it please make sure to let your photography or gig know ahead time so they can book someone else..

A no call, no show is an absence from the workforce without notifying the employer. This form of absence is typically considered inconsiderate and very unprofessional. When workers miss work, especially in jobs where one's workload would need to be substituted for the day (teachers, cashiers, servers, etc.), it is generally expected that they call in advance to warn of his/her absence so that their workload can be completed by the present workers. Many businesses have forms of punishments as a result of no call, no shows such as counseling statements, suspension, and possibly termination of employment.

There are various reasons that a no call, no show occurs:

• Sometimes, employees who do not show up to work without reporting are quitting the job and do so by abandoning their position and discontinuing all further communications with the employer.

• There are times, however, when a no call, no show is not preventable, such as when an employee is suffering a medical emergency and is unable to communicate with the employer. An employer is more likely to excuse such an absence if the employee has a good prior attendance record and/or supplies satisfactory documentation of the unexpected nature of the situation (such as paperwork from an ambulance or hospital).

• In some cases, the employee does report the absence to the employer (such as by leaving a message), but the employer fails to receive the communication.

• It can be also construed that the employee simply wants to take the day off (despite the risk of any disciplinary action that might be taken in this situation) and does not want to deal with any possible hassling questions from the employer, as made famous by the character Peter Gibbons in the film Office Space ("I think I'm just going to ... not go.")

• In retail positions, there are often scheduling inconsistencies in which employees believe that they are working a different shift that day (or for that matter, working an entirely different day) instead of the one scheduled. Some employers consider this a form of no call, no show.
